I don't really know how to describe what this one is about, but I'm interested in hearing how it comes across, so leave comments or contact me. This one was another one-nighter - I seem to have better success with the songs I write in one night. It was a Saturday night, took about eight hours to get from the appearance of the first piano riff to the first recording where I got through without bobbles. This recording is from after digesting the tune for a couple of weeks.

Brilliant. Way to go! I bet you hate to hear about comparisons but that was very Ben Folds (with a better voice). I love songs that keep you guessing on the tonality and the resolve. My favorite part was the end of the refrain when the chord resolved back into the circus theme. I thought the 'elephant ears' was a little awkward to fit in, and I honestly don't think it's necessary to repeat my favorite clown three times at the end... or at least not so quickly in succession. I'm no composer, but I do love listening to music so please don't take any of this the wrong way. Just an outside observer. The whimsicality of the music was so wonderful, but so sad. For some reason, I thought more about my children and their futures listening to this song despite the words being about relationships. The icing on the cake was the dual voice of the music... the lower carnival rhythm and the light tune that dances over the top of it. Like two people on different paths that work so well together.

Kind of sad for a clown song. It's a nice song, Though its sometimes hard for me to really get into the slower songs like this.

thanks! funny about "elephant ears" - elephant ears and hot dogs are the only two phrases in the lyrics that I didn't write. There's an interesting backstory about that whole thing. I love the comments, and don't mind comparisons, either. I think a lot of my songs will be about different themes than what Ben Folds writes about, but it's a comparison I've gotten before (and it's flattering, he's great).

By the way, for people reading this entry - I have some ideas up on how to promote the song. You can add it to your facebook profile, dedicate it to your friends, etc. Go try it out, it'll help get the word out.

I was reminded of a (misremembered) line of poetry by Robert Hayden "what did I know/ of love's patient and lonely offices?" Not sure exactly why this popped into my head--the song and poem don't have that much in common--but I suppose it's because one gets the sense that the narrator DOES know, while the subject might not. In any case, I liked the song a lot!

Curt, I love this song! Of course I'm a little partial to clowns since I am one.
See me at www.MountainCircusArts.com.
I would love to play this during some of my shows.
Best wishes,
Randall

Hey, I love this song! Curt... would you mind if I had a few of my 1st grade students sing the first verse of this song at our next assembly?

I'm speechless. I think you are too shy. The song and music is really awesome. The music is light, the voice is soft and very pleasant. It is a great music to relax. It is strange that writing such songs you are not a well-known singer yet. Maybe it is worth to find a producer who would make a star from you. Try it. Your music is so nice that it is a crime to hide it.
